This thermometer cannot be left in the oven, but I was pleased with a quick read of the freezer and refrigerator compartments and found the temperatures matched what was posted on my refrigerator door, so this device could also be used to eliminate a separate freezer/refrigerator thermometer.
I tested the thermometer for accuracy in boiling water, a frozen slurry I made in my blender, and even checked my own temperature under my tongue and not only were the various readings accurate, they were all delivered within six seconds (in one case, five seconds.) Additionally, there are built-in settings for minimum/maximum and calibration.
The thermometer is dishwasher safe to 190 degrees Fahrenheit and has an IPX7 waterproof standard which means safe in water for 30 minutes at a depth of three feet, but I will continue to wash the probe with food safe soap and hot water by hand.
